How much can we consume?
No that ain’t Beer, i mean the Content on the internet. As in my previous post on Thought Aggregation, I touched upon the surface of the “Content explosion” happening on the web. With the means to produce the content having become easier by a large magnitude, Content production and publishing in no longer limited to only few Websites or News Agencies. Almost everyone with some thought can now become his/her own publisher. This blog is a small example of that. Anyone with a Cellphone with a Camera can create the video content and upload it on the Web within the matter of minutes. However, we only have a limited hours, and it is getting lot more difficult to search, sort and prioritize the content that you want to consume. How can we efficiently traverse through this long Tail of Web content and discover the best results not necessarily the most viewed. As discussed in earlier posts, there are lots of thoughts and ideas that flow on the web in form of Blogs, forums, etc from various organizations, institutions, individuals. It would be a shame, not to harness all this in a meaningful, usable way. To me, Just searching on Technorati is neither enough and nor efficient.
The new Israely Startup Knocka.tv has taken the first step towards User Generated Video Content aggregation in some way. Their idea is to enhance the user experience of watching the User generated video content. They will do this by refining, Structuring and producing the streamlined content channels. I think this is a great idea as the Present Web is not very structured and also Searching through the Video content is still evolving, so giving people an option to view well structured Human moderated channels is a great path towards the evolution of Video on Web.
Since Knocka is going to have live 24/7 moderators to continuously check and refine the channels, its scalability is a concern, however, eventually the bits of automation can be inserted and atleast grab the low hanging fruits.

[…] So in the Web 2.0 era and when Internet Users have become Users 2.0, the users are very rapidly adapting to the new social ways of gathering information and their ways of reliance. It is getting apparent that people prefer knowing reviews or feedback from masses, than any single expert of the subject for most of the general news or information. That brings us to the key point of this post, is this, the beginning of the end of Expert Content Review ? Leaving aside some very specialized subjects, Yes. The success of the User driven information filtering is only the starting point. We are seeing even the Traditional media trying hard to make changes to their age old strategy and adapt the new ways of Blogging, User reviews, etc. There are other issues with the information overload which i have discussed in my earlier post Here.
